Quality Tourism for the Caribbean (QTC):
CAST and the Caribbean Epidemiology
Centre (CAREC) are currently developing
a second QTC project which will
implement the seven (7) health, safety
and environment (HSE) standards
developed during 1999-2002 under the
first QTC project.
The second QTC project will feature four
major components:
Component 1: Awareness-raising
and Consensus Building. This component
will achieve region-wide recognition of
the HSE standards through promotion,
marketing and negotiation with relevant
national and international agencies.
Component 2: Training. This
component will provide adequate training
to the tourism industry staff who are
expected to deploy the skills learned in
their day to day job routines. Training
of consultants to provide assistance to
participating tourism businesses and
auditors, who will audit properties
against the QTC standards, will also be
provided.
Component 3: Implementation and
Certification. This component will
develop and implement an accessible,
regional QTC certification system with
matching auditing and certification
procedures and routines.
Component 4: Dissemination of
Lessons Learned and Sustainability of
QTC. The purpose of this component is
to disseminate the lessons learned from
the implementation and certification
process and provide valuable project
monitoring and evaluation.
