CAST's
new programs and services adopt a philosophy of creating
‘Positive
Impact!’
through
promotion of environmental best practices and low impact
tourism.
CAST PERFORMANCE AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (PLP):
CAST's PLP is
a NEW program developed to
recognize and promote the
achievements of Caribbean hotels
and other tourism properties in
implementing best environmental
practices and achieving
sustainable levels of
performance.
The PLP program has three defined levels of
involvement:
i.
Awareness: The “Awareness” level requires
the achievement of a
minimum level of awareness of
environmental issues by the
property. CAST will conduct an
environmental walk-through (EWT)
which will assess the existing
level of environmental
awareness.
ii. Performance:
Entry to the second or
“Performance” level of PLP
requires that the property
demonstrate evidence of any
programs or environmental best
practices designed and
implemented over a period of
time which have successfully
improved the property’s
environmental performance. This
should indicate a heightened
level of environmental awareness
by management and staff.
iii. Leadership:
Entry to the “Leadership” circle
of PLP indicates that
the property has been recognized
in the past for its
implementation of environmental
best practices, has attained
green certification (e.g. Green
Globe 21) or can demonstrate
consistent and superior
environmental performance. A
Leadership property is
demonstrably a good corporate
citizen with on-going beneficial
programs for its staff and
adjacent communities and is also
recognized for its on-going
work.
